What is metama?

metama is an independent music label established in 2025. We inherit the spirit of "metapop" born in the late 1970s to 1980s and explore new relationships between technology and music.

Metapop

"Metapop" is a collective term for music marked by "meta"—standing for metamorphose, metaphysics, and metabolism. The shock of the "musical Big Bang" brought forth by synthesizers and computers still drifts as an antimatter echo.

Twenty-first-century music production is almost entirely routed through computers, and the once-symbolic notion of "inorganic" has already lost its meaning. Metapop is music for those who live with technology.

Mission

metama's mission is the inheritance and transformation of metapop, and its continuous metabolism. We stand in the "ma" where past visions of the future intersect with the present technological environment, redefining new pop from there.

Operating Philosophy

metama is a newly launched independent project. Our operational methods and revenue distribution are designed to balance the sustainability of our activities with fair returns to participants, and may be adjusted as circumstances evolve.

We are not a project aimed at maximizing profits. Our focus is on supporting artists' creative work and promoting the spirit of metapop.
